However, Originally named “The Innocent Years!” The shift in title aimed to mirror the era’s spirit. The Bells named the show’s setting after Genoa City, Wisconsin. Airing from March 26, 1973, the series replaced “Where the Heart Is,” with Bell as head writer until his retirement in 1998. Initially considering New York, production settled in Los Angeles. John Conboy served as the first executive producer, succeeded by others like Edward Scott and David Shaughnessy. In the mid-’80s, the Bells moved to LA, where their children, including Bradley Bell and Lauralee Bell, became involved in soap operas, shaping shows like The Bold and the Beautiful.
